Within KPMG Deals & Strategy, our Financial Services team provides financial due diligence, M&A advisory and valuation services to clients across the banking, insurance, insurance brokerage, as well as asset and wealth management sectors. We support both buy-side and sell-side transactions, helping clients navigate complex deals with confidence and strategic insight.

 

What will you do?

 

As a member of the Financial Services Deals Advisory team, you will be part of a team that advises executive-level clients across the FS sector, including Insurance, banking, wealth management and insurance brokerage. As a (Senior) Consultant, you will support business origination efforts, execute transactions, and assist senior team members in further developing KPMG Belgium’s corporate finance service offering.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Drive BD activities with the team: by preparing sector analysis and market maps, building target lists, synthesizing market trends and competitive landscapes, developing pitch materials and thought leadership, and supporting client meetings;
  • Participate in FDD engagements on buy-side and sell-side transactions for corporate and private equity clients;
  • Identify key risks and value drivers specific to financial services businesses such as asset quality, liquidity, and capital adequacy, underwriting and claims performance, AUM/flows, and fee margins);
  • Translate diligence findings into clear and actionable insights, including price and SPA adjustments, value bridges, and targeted recommendations to support negotiations;
  • Analyze and present financial information, including income statements, balance sheets, cash Flow statements, and financial services KPIs such as NIM, cost/income, Stage 2–3 and coverage ratios, combined/loss/expense ratios, retention, AUM/NNM, and EBITDA/EBITDAC where relevant;
  • Assess key valuation metrics to bridge Enterprise to Equity Value, including underlying EBITDA (or alternative profit proxies within financial services), working capital, and net financial debt. Develop an understanding of sector-specific valuation methodologies such as P/BV, ROE vs. COE, dividend capacity, and embedded or appraised value in insurance;
  • Support broader due diligence workstreams including commercial, legal, tax, pensions, regulatory, IT, and data-related reviews, while coordinating with client M&A teams and external advisors;
  • Prepare high‑quality deliverables, including red‑flag reports, full‑scope due diligence reports, Quality of Earnings (QofE) analysis, Vendor Due Diligence (VDD) reports, management presentations, and board materials;
  • Participate in cross-border projects and engage directly with senior client stakeholders.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Master's degree in BA, Economics, Finance, Engineering, or a related field;
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience within the financial services sector (e.g. insurance, banking, payments, wealth management), ideally in audit, transaction services,
  • We also welcome candidates with experience in: Banking or insurance finance, FP&A, or group reporting; Risk, credit, ALM, treasury, or capital management; Actuarial or finance roles within insurance organisations; Corporate finance, M&A, or strategy consulting with financial services exposure;
  • Strong accounting skills and a solid understanding of CF. Familiarity with financial services-specific topics such as IFRS 9, IFRS 17, Basel/CRR, Solvency II, or brokerage economics is considered an asset;
  • A good understanding of financial modelling and valuation fundamentals, including DCF, trading and transaction comparable. Knowledge of dividend and residual income valuation methods and LBO modelling is a plus;
  • Excellent presentation and slide-writing skills, with the ability to translate research and data into clear sector analyses, market maps, and client-ready materials;
  • Confidence in working with AI tools, combined with a critical and responsible mindset when applying AI in daily tasks and team collaboration;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, combined with strong proficiency in Dutch and/or French.
